Redundancy: What’s Next?

You’re in the perfect ServiceNow role, been there for years. Then... 

BAM!  

You find yourself facing redundancy.

The first thing you need to do is... 

 Don’t Take it Personally! 

We get it, your mind goes into overdrive and starts to think "where did I go wrong?!”. But the reality is, it’s not you that’s no longer required, it’s just your technical specialities, so try not to give yourself a hard time.  

You may find that over the last few weeks of your employment, your employer tries to prove that your role is no longer needed. Again, don’t take this personally – it’s likely they’re just trying to validate their reasons for making this decision, which in turn makes them feel better about it.  

Take Time to Reflect on Your Career Goals 

Use this opportunity to assess what you want to achieve in your career.  

Do you want a role where there is an opportunity to become ServiceNow certified, to enhance your skills and knowledge of the platform? 

Have you previously worked with end-users, but would like to like to get into the ServiceNow partner ecosystem? What will help you break into this path? What have you previously done that you can utilise and develop to achieve this? 

Do you want to specialise in a particular area of ServiceNow, such as IT Service Management (ITSM) or Customer Service Management (CSM)? 

Consider what motivates you, what you enjoy doing, and what you want to avoid in your next job. This will help you to focus your job search, and find the right ServiceNow role for you. 

Update Your CV and LinkedIn Profile  

Make sure your CV and LinkedIn profile are up-to-date and tailored to the type of ServiceNow role you are looking for.  

Highlight your achievements and quantify your successes where possible. What ServiceNow certifications do you have? Have you been involved in a successful implementation, or even multiple implementations? This will help you stand out from other candidates when applying for roles.

Network and Build Relationships  

Reach out to your network, including former colleagues, industry contacts, and Recruitment Consultants.

Do they know of any companies that are beginning their ServiceNow implementation and would benefit from having a knowledgeable and skilled ServiceNow professional on their team? 

Building relationships within the ServiceNow ecosystem is key to finding new opportunities. 

Consider Upskilling or Retraining  

If you are considering a career change or want to enhance your ServiceNow skills, now may be the perfect time to consider upskilling or retraining.  

Look for ServiceNow courses or training programmes that will give you the skills you need to succeed in your chosen field within the ServiceNow ecosystem. 

There are many pathways to take within ServiceNow: Developers, Administrators, Architects, Project Managers or even Consultants. The possibilities are endless!
