LinkedIn is the most popular social media platform for professionals, so take advantage of it to maximise your career potential!

To give you an idea of the scale of the platform, I entered ServiceNow into the search box and was given nearly 500,000 results.

The following LinkedIn recommendations can help you stand out from the crowd, and with so many ServiceNow professionals on the network, the reason to improve your LinkedIn is vital.

So, where do you start?

Upload a Great Profile and Background Picture

Sounds simple right? But you would be surprised by the amount of ServiceNow professionals who look like this:

By leaving your profile and background image blank, you basically make yourself invisible to potential employers. You want to stand out from the ServiceNow crowd, and this is what people notice first.

An excellent profile picture should be a current photograph of yourself, and your face should take up around 60% of the overall space.

Try to have a picture with only you in it, having multiple people in your profile picture can be confusing for the person viewing it.

Your banner should represent your profession. Something that reveals a little more about you. This does not have to feature you but try to make it something that the viewer will remember.

It might be a banner displaying your area of expertise, such as your ServiceNow skill. You can use a variety of editing tools to make it stand out and more intriguing. Have fun with it and make it your own!

Your Headline, Sells You!

Make your headline about more than your job title.

While there's nothing wrong with this, people are more likely to click on your profile if it's unique.

Consider something punchy that demonstrates your personality while remaining professional.

Tell A Story

Some people choose to only state their professional experience and relevant skills. Attempt to avoid doing so. Use the experience and about sections to share your narrative and truly introduce yourself to the reader.

Imagine you are a Recruiter looking for ServiceNow prospects for a position you are seeking to fill. You go through profile after profile with job lists and skills - that's all there is. Then you come across a profile that not only lists their former ServiceNow roles, but also explains what drew them to that role, why they decided to leave, and what they intended to do next.

Who are you more likely to strike up a discussion with?

Use the about section to showcase your individuality. What drew you to ServiceNow? Why do you want to keep working with this amazing platform? What value can you add to any organisation you work for? I understand that some individuals find it difficult to promote themselves, but you really need to sell yourself!

Constantly Update Your Profile and Post Regularly

Check that your profile is up to date. Don't be afraid to play with it, add a sentence here and there, or eliminate something that no longer seems pertinent to you.

You never know who will glance over your profile and when. If the same individual looks at your profile several times, give them something new to look for!

Regular posting will help you gain traction in your network. Post content you find fascinating that you believe others will find valuable, and start having conversations with your network.

Along with posting, interact with other users' posts by liking and commenting; this shows your ServiceNow network and their connections that you have an opinion and want to participate in the topic. You never know who is reading the comments.

Highlight Your Skills

Because the platform is utilised by so many Recruiters and Hiring Managers, it makes sense to include your expertise.

Adding your skills and expertise makes it easier for Recruiters to find the candidates they require.

A word of caution: with so many skills available on LinkedIn, it's easy to overshare. Make certain that the skills you add are applicable to your ServiceNow experience.

Update Your Contact Information

If you're looking for a new job on LinkedIn, this tip is self-explanatory. Make sure your information is up to date, including your location.

Request Recommendations

Whilst skill endorsements are great, consider taking things to the next level.

A tailored testimonial will provide valuable insight into your abilities and the type of person you are to work with. Simply ask your closest contacts for recommendations relating to your current ServiceNow position or perhaps your next venture!

Follow Your Interests

There is something for everybody on LinkedIn!

When you follow your interests, you open yourself up to a larger range of opportunities and meet individuals who share your interests. Even if your interests aren't directly related to your job role or future employment, having a diverse set of interests can help your profile stand out.

Keep Your Profile Public

LinkedIn is a completely different social media platform to Facebook and Instagram.

While most social media users want to keep their personal life private, LinkedIn is a place that you should make public. Don't worry, there are privacy settings for any information you might wish to keep private.

The need for keeping your profile public is simple: there are many people on the site who can help you further your profession, but they can't find you if your profile is hidden!

While there is no guarantee that you will be hired through LinkedIn, following these methods will assist you. They will enhance your presence on the platform, perhaps opening up a plethora of opportunities for you!
